Visit to Our Rector by Southern University Delegation

Prof. Dr. Mathieu Kourouma, the Head of the Department of Computer Science at Southern University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Kandara, Liaison for Türkiye at Southern University, Kamil Sönmez, Chair of Bursa Gürsu Chamber of Agriculture, and İbrahim Kandara visited our Rector Prof. Dr. Ersan Aslan.

They visited our Rector at Rector’s office with the participation of Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Mehmet Başalan and Prof. Dr. Erol Yılmaz, Dr. Şevket Evci Secretary-General, Assist. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Başer, the Head of International Office in the Rector's office.

Expressing his pleasure regarding the visit, Rector Prof. Dr. Ersan Aslan emphasized the desire to maintain the collaboration with Southern University on both bilateral projects and large-scale, internationally impactful initiatives such as the "1st International Congress on Children in All Dimensions", which has been the fruit of long-standing cooperation.

In addition to discussing ongoing projects between the two universities, Rector Prof. Dr. Ersan Aslan exchanged ideas with the guests regarding potential new collaborations.

Prof. Dr. Mathieu Kourouma and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Kandara expressed their gratitude to the Rector for his commitment to collaboration and the concrete steps taken so far.

Following their meeting with the Rector, Prof. Dr. Mathieu Kourouma and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Kandara visited the International Relations Office. Head of International Relations Dr. Zeynep Başer provided the guests detailed information about the collaborations with overseas institutions, exchange programs, and international students of our university.

Southern University Academicians Met with Our Students

Prof. Dr. Mathieu Kourouma, Head of the Department of Computer Science at Southern University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Kandara, Liaison for Türkiye at Southern University, Kamil Sönmez, Chair of Bursa Gürsu Chamber of Agriculture, and İbrahim Kandara met with faculty members and students at our Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Assist. Prof. Zeynep Başer, Head of the International Office accompanied our guests during the visit.

Prof. Dr. Mathieu Kourouma and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Kandara gave information to our students about Southern University and post-graduate education in the United States at the Şehit Aydın Çopur Conference Hall after the meeting with the faculty members of the Department of Computer Engineering.

Assoc. Prof. Osman Kandra stated that students considering doing a master’s or doctorate degree in the USA should keep their GPA high and said “Your GPA must be at least 3.00. Your GPA must be good to be accepted for master’s and doctorate degree in the USA. Low GPA is one of the issues that make it difficult for us to accept students from Turkiye. At Southern University, we can lower the admission requirement to 2.7 but your target should be higher. We also require a certain level of English. You need to complete a 4-year degree for master’s and doctorate degree. You do not need to have a bachelor’s degree in the same field to get a master’s degree. You do not need to graduate from that department to do a master’s degree in computer engineering.”

Prof. Dr. Mathieu Kourouma answered the questions of our students and gave information about admission requirements and language proficiency for graduate education at Southern University.

At the end of the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özer Sevim, Vice Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Attilla Ergüzen, Head of Computer Engineering Department thanked our guests Prof. Dr. Mathieu Kourouma, Assoc. Dr. Osman Kandara, Kamil Sönmez, Chair of Bursa Gürsu Chamber of Agriculture and İbrahim Kandara, and presented them gifts.
