Our University Continues to Establish New Collaborations

Our Rector and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees of the Islamic Science History Research Foundation (İBTAV) Mecit Çetinkaya visited Louisiana State University (LSU) on their second day in the United States. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Ersan Aslan, the President of the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees Mecit Çetinkaya, LSU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jackie Bach, Dean Prof. Dr. Roland Mitchell, vice dean and research center director Prof. Dr. Eugene Kennedy, who previously visited our university and pioneered the establishment of bilateral cooperation with LSU, vice dean Dr. Arend Van Gemmert, Dr. Chad Gothreaux, Dr. Renée Boutte Myer, Dr. Mary P. Woods, LSU International Programs Officer Dr. Simba Dieng, Undergraduate Programs Student Manager Phil Veril, Southern University Türkiye Liaison Dr. Osman Kandara and Head of International Office of our University Dr. Zeynep Başer attended the introductory meeting held at Louisiana State University. Dean of the College of Science and Education Dr. Roland Mitchell, Head of International Office Dr. Zeynep Başer and IBTAV President Mecit Çetinkaya gave information about the Louisiana State University, Kırıkkale University and Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Research Foundation respectively and bilateral cooperation opportunities were discussed. The first meeting ended by our Rector and Mecit Çetinkaya's presentation of the English edition of the book “Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam” to Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jackie Bach and Vice Dean Prof. Dr. Eugene Kennedy.

After the introductory meeting held at LSU College of Science and Education, the delegates visited the College of Veterinary Medicine. First, the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Oliver Garden gave information about the college and their studies.  The delegates asked questions and bilateral cooperation opportunities were evaluated. Lastly, a tour of the College of Veterinary Medicine was held.

In the afternoon meetings, the delegates came together with the deans of Louisiana State University. Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Dr. Troy Blanchard, Dean of the College of Business Administration, Dr. Jared Llorens, Dean of the College of Science Dr. Andrew Maverick, Dean of the College of Engineering Dr. Karsten Thompson, Dean of the College of Science and Education Dr. Roland Mitchell and vice dean Dr. Eugene Kennedy attended the meeting. There was a mutual exchange of views at the meeting and common goals of the two universities and areas in which they could cooperate were determined. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Ersan Aslan emphasized that the effort given is to prepare our youth more strongly for the future. Our rector said that we should raise our young people as individuals with sought-after qualifications. First, it was decided that relevant areas would start with online meetings. LSU representatives expressed their satisfaction and excitement about our university's visit. Our Rector and hairman of IBTAV Board of Directors and Board of Trustees Mert Çetinkaya presented an astrolabe and the tile painting depicting the Çeşnigir Bridge one of the historical symbols of our city. Dr. Roland Mitchell thanked and said that the gifts were very valuable, and they were very pleased with our delegates’ visit to LSU. 

Finally, another meeting with the administrative staff of the College of Science and Education was held. Under the chairmanship of Dean Dr. Roland Mitchell, vide dean Dr. Eugene Kennedy, Dr. Arend Van Gemmert, Dr. Rob Lyles, Dr. Renee Boutte Myer, Dr. Mary P. Woods, Dr. Carol Barry, Dr. Alex attended the last meeting. Participants expressed their excitement about the cooperation to be carried out between the two universities.
